There are 4 study classes and 2 laboratories in Department. They are fully equipped for the classes with students. They allow providing theoretical and practical training for students in general courses for bachelors and masters, as well as specialized training for future botanists and ecologists.

Department has living algae, fungi, and bacterial cultures for biochemistry and biotechnology research.

The National Property of Ukraine is kept in the Department of Botany and Plant Ecology – V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University Herbarium (CWU). Herbarium CWU is a valuable database for the phytodiversity of Ukraine and Eurasia. This collection is an important part of future biologist and botanist training. The demonstrative herbarium is used for lectures and practices. 

The Department has its own museum. There are dried and fixed plants, fungi, lichens, and algae preparations stored in our Department. Some exhibits are used for the classes with students. Besides, the collection is represented by a big number of samples, it has historical value. The museum keeps exhibits collected by scientists during their numerous expeditions not only in Ukraine but also around the world.
